Like Jenkin, he was a widower. At the time of the 1881 census, his son, Benjamin, a 13-year-old collier, and daughter, Minnie, 9, were living in his household. The birthplace for all three was recorded as Treforest.
By the time of the 1891 census, my great-grandfather Jenkin Jeremiah was no longer a widower. His household consisted of his wife, Annie, his son from his first marriage, a stepson and two children by Annie and they lived at 18 Wyndham Row, Tynewydd, Ystradyfodwg.
In the census of that year, Jenkin was recorded as being a 45-year-old shoemaker born in Pontypridd who could speak English and Welsh. The initial of his middle name was given as E. for Edward, whereas in the 1881 census the initial had been recorded as A. The birthplace of his 27-year-old wife, Annie L. Jeremiah, was given as Edinburgh, Scotland and it was noted that she spoke only English.
Jenkin's elder son, who could speak both English and Welsh, was listed as A. Benjamin Jeremiah. His birthplace was recorded as North America, Ceynyn ? County which could possibly be Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Although he had been born abroad, he was noted as being a British subject. He was 18 and unmarried, his occupation being a shoemaker like his father.
The three younger children in the household were all born in Tynewydd, Ystradyfodwg and their language was English. Albert E. White was Annie's son and thus the stepson of Jenkin Jeremiah. His daughter, Florence M. was 3 and his son, Morgan Lewis was 2 years old.
